Most often, a blood test for prolactin is prescribed by gynecologists, mammologists and, of course, endocrinologists, for various types of menstrual irregularities, chest pain, discharge from the breast (mastalgia, mastopathy), and weight gain. Many patients experience moderate to very high levels of this hormone. This article describes the relationship between hypothyroidism and hyperprolactinemia.
