В данной статье освещаются распространенность сахарного диабета, эпидемические масштабы заболевания синдромом диабетической пятки, значительное увеличение числа больных, увеличение продолжительности жизни больных сахарным диабетом в результате создания эффективных средств и методов лечения, увеличение числа поздних осложнений заболевания, проблемы инвалидизации больных, оптимальные методы лечения.
