Metabolic Syndrome and Pregnancy
Keywords:
metabolic syndrome, obesity, pregnancy, thrombotic complications.Abstract
Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a very important health problem, and the worldwide prevalence is constantly increasing every year. There is evidence that obesity, a major component of MS, is associated with the development of several pregnancy complications, including fetal growth restriction, fetal macrosomia, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and sudden fetal death syndrome. The mechanisms of the relationship between metabolic syndrome and the development of various pregnancy complications are actively studied and discussed. The importance of MS during pregnancy is determined by its effect on the hemostatic system and the increased risk of thrombotic complications.
