THE EFFECT OF SMOKING ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF PLACENTAL LESIONS

An analysis of literature data on the effect of smoking on the development of placental lesions and pregnancy complications is presented. Based on adverse effects of smoking on the morphofunctional state of the placenta are toxic substances released during smoking. Placental abnormalities are noted both with active and passive smoking, with smoking before pregnancy and during it. Smoking and tobacco smoke contribute to more frequent development miscarriage, chorioamnionitis, impaired vascularization of chorionic villi, placenta previa and abruption, premature rupture of membranes, which makes it necessary to state the fact of smoking in a pregnant woman in a clinical diagnosis. However, smoking is a preventable risk factor of development of pregnancy and fetal complications.
